Eileen Soper (1905-1990)

Illustrator printmaker and writer, she was the daughter and pupil the artist George Soper and lived all her life in the family house in Hertfordshire. After her father's death she turned the garden into a wildlife sanctuary and wrote and illustrated several books about the animals and birds she studied there. She also illustrated 35 Enid Blyton books. She first exhibited at the Royal Academy at the age of 15 and one of her early exhibits was bought by Queen Mary. She was a founding member of the Society of Wildlife Artists, and actively involved in conservation.
