Joseph Harold Swanwick, RI ROI (1866-1929)
A Middlewich born animal, figure & landscape painter, who studied at Liverpool & the Slade Schools and at Julien's Academie in Paris. He married Vivian Heatley, herself an accomplished painter, and they lived at first at Winsford and Middlewich in Cheshire, and then in 1909 they moved to Wilmington, Polegate, Sussex. Swanwick was elected to the RI and ROI, and exhibited extensively, including at the Royal Academy, Royal Cambrian Academy, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Walker Galleries & elsewhere. His works at the RA include "The Last Load", "Her Kitten" and "The drinking Trough".
