William Watt Milne (1869-1949)

Milne was a notable Scottish impressionist artist, from Cambuskenneth, Stirling. He was born in 1869 in Cambuskenneth, Stirling, Scotland. After studies, Milne exhibited in the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts and the Royal Scottish Academy.

Famous for his coastal and landscape scenes around Scotland, Milne used an unusually vibrant, varied and colourful palette for the Scottish School at that time. His emphasis was on the play of natural light and reflected colours, and he often depicted the effects of light in the evening or twilight. Along with many of his contemporaries, such as William Miller Frazer, William Kay Blacklock, John Muirhead, Keeley Halswelle, Robert Walker and others, Milne also found subject matter in England, frequenting the area of the Great Ouse around Holywell in Bedforshire.

He died aged 80.
