Edwin Hayes, RHA RI ROI (1820-1904)
Marine painter principally in watercolour, but also in oil. Born in Bristol, Father of Claude Hayes. He made his name by his marine subjects. He became Associate of the New Watercolour Society (Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours) in 1860 & Member in 1863. He was also a Member of the Royal Hibernian Academy & the institute of Oil Painters. He exhibited prolifically, at the Royal Academy from 1855-1904, also at British Institution, Suffolk Street, New Watercolour Society, Grosvenor Gallery, New Gallery & elsewhere.
