Sir Walter Blunt, Bt. (1826-1847)
This was originally from an album compiled by Sir Walter Blunt's cousin & successor, Sir Charles W. Blunt.
What is remarkable about this painting is that not only is it finely done, but he painted it between the ages of 17 & 21, when he died at his home, Heathfield Park, Sussex, from consumption. He is thus previously unrecorded & may never have exhibited his work.
He shows the contemporary influences of David Cox Snr, J. S. Cotman & John Varley.
He made several sketching trips to Devon, Wales & Derbyshire, & finally abroad to the Alps to try "The Cure", before his death on 13th July 1847 at Heathfield.
