John F. Tennant (1796-1872)

He was a painter of genre, landscape & coastal scenes. He was mostly self-taught, although he did receive lessons from William Anderson.

At first he painted historical genre scenes, mostly taken from Walter Scott, but soon he turned to landscape, for which he is better known.

He exhibited mostly at Suffolk Street, where he became a member in 1842, he also exhibited at the royal Academy 1820-67, British Institution & New Watercolour Society.

He lived for a long time in Devon & Wales.
