Sir David Wilkie, RA (1785-1841)
He was a historical, genre & portrait painter, who first studied at the Trustee's Academy & then the Royal Academy Schools & was elected ARA & RA in 1809 & 1811.
He was appointed King's Limner for Scotland in 1823, & painter in Ordinary to the King in 1830.
He visited Italy, Germany & Spain from 1825-1828, & Egypt & Palestine in 1840.
Examples of his works are in the British Museum, Aberdeen Art Gallery, Cecil Higgins Art Gallery, Newport Art Gallery, Leicestershire Art Gallery, Castle Museum Nottingham & elsewhere.
