George Charles Morland (1763-1804)
He was amongst the most widely known painters of English genre & landscape. A Londoner, he visited the Southern Counties to paint. A bon-viveur who often paid his bills with sketches, despite earning considerable amounts from engravers with whom his work was very popular, he nevertheless ended his days in penury. Several biographies have been written, and his works are to be found in numerous collections.
